Committees
The District 1 Community Council has three standing committees and a standing task force:
- The Finance Committee oversees the financial health of the Council. The Council is funded through contracts with the
City of St. Paul and with Eureka Recycling. In addition, we seek grants from foundations to fund special projects, as well as
seeking donations from area residents. The Finance Committee exists to assure that the Council spends its money wisely, and
meets the funding requirements of our contracts and our donors.
- The Communication Committee oversees publication of the District 1 News and manages our
web site and other communication functions. This committee is concerned with all the ways in which
the Council passes on information between the City and County and our neighborhood residents.
- The Land Use Committee oversees land use issues in the district. These issues include new
developments that are proposed for the area, lot splits, and variance requests on projects property
owners want to undertake. We receive notice from the City of various proposals for land and property
in the district and must evaluate each proposal in terms of district interests. Our opinions are weighed
by City officials as they make their final decision on the proposals.
The Land Use Committee makes every effort
to understand neighborhood concerns around proposals, as well as evaluating them against authorized area plans.
- The Crime and Safety Task Force: Do you have concerns, information, or ideas for crime prevention efforts in District 1 you would like to share with the Crime Prevention Coordinator? We welcome input from the community and would like to hear from you. At this time we do not have an organized Crime and Safety Committee, but we are anxious to get one started. Please call Pam McCreary at 651-578-4000 if you would like to either join the committee, or if you would like to share ideas for this committee to address.
