Motorists should be aware of delays and lane closures on I-94 in the East Metro as traffic changes occur Thu, May 26, weather permitting.
Beginning at 7 p.m. crews will begin shifting the eastbound lanes of I-94 between Mounds Blvd and Century Ave. to the outside lanes. During the switch, eastbound I-94 traffic will be reduced to two lanes. The closures will end by 5 a.m. Fri, May 27. In addition, Tue, May 31, westbound I-94 will be shifted to the outside lanes and be reduced to two lanes at 7 p.m. The closures will end by 5 a.m. Wed, June 1. These shifts and lane closures are needed so crews can prepare the road for the next stage of construction. The work is part of a larger two-year project which includes resurfacing both directions of I-94 from Mounds Blvd in St. Paul to just east of Century Ave. in Woodbury. Additional work includes constructing and replacing noise walls between Conway St. and Maple St. in St. Paul and extending auxiliary lanes in specific locations, bridge maintenance, construct trail connections, updating signals and pedestrian access and improving the drainage system. The $49.8 million I-94 reconstruction and improvement project will provide a smoother, safer, long-lasting road with better pedestrian accessibility and improved drainage capabilities. Performing periodic pavement repairs at the appropriate times can greatly increase a road’s lifespan. The project helps ensure MnDOT’s transportation system will continue to serve the state for many years. Construction is expected to be complete by fall 2017.
