What is the District Council?
The City of Saint Paul is divided into 17 planning districts, one of which
is further divided into three community organizations.
These planning districts are a way for local government officials to get input from residents about
issues where action is needed.
The City contracts with the nonprofits that represent each district to:
- help the Department of Planning and Economic Development (PED) get input on zoning and development issues,
- help the City organize residents to prevent and report crime, and
- distribute recycling bins, recycling information, and to run community clean-ups.
What else they do is up to the residents of each district.
